- Use your in-depth expertise to develop, implement and manage network support processes and systems across a Cisco, Palo Alto and Mitel environment.
- Manage and maintain the Council’s network infrastructure and security, including configuring systems, applying updates and ensuring firmware is current and optimised for performance and resilience.
- Use IT service management tools to accurately capture and manage data in line with ITIL processes, maintaining up-to-date service documentation and supporting the investigation and resolution of incidents.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to identify and resolve issues within network and telephony systems, implementing effective solutions and preventative measures to ensure reliable and secure services.
- Ensure that all network and telephony systems are managed in compliance with relevant policies, procedures and industry best practices, maintaining security, reliability and regulatory standards.
- Monitor and analyse network performance using industry-standard monitoring and management tools, ensuring high availability, proactive issue detection and reliable network and telephony services across the organisation.
- Manage, deploy and maintain the Council’s existing Wi‑Fi platform, ensuring optimal performance, security and coverage while keeping systems up to date with the latest configurations and updates.
- Work closely with third‑party vendors and service providers to deliver, support and maintain network and telephony systems, ensuring projects and ongoing services are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Carry out manual handling tasks, including installing and maintaining networking hardware such as switches, routers and other equipment within communications cabinets and data centres.
Who we are looking for:

- Broad knowledge of structured cabling and Wi‑Fi standards to support the design, deployment and expansion of network and telephony infrastructure (Cat5/6/Fibre etc).
- Solid understanding of Layer2 and Layer3 network topologies and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex multi‑site environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with IT colleagues and wider service areas, providing technical guidance, troubleshooting and support.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence holder and access to a personal vehicle insured for work purposes, as the role involves site visits and transporting networking hardware.
- Proactive and adaptable approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality results.
- Willingness to carry out any other reasonable duties relevant to the nature and level of the post.
