Join a team that keeps Bradford running. We are looking for 2 skilled and motivated HGV & Motor Vehicle/Plant Mechanics to join our experienced, close‑knit workshop team at Shearbridge Depot. Bradford Council operates one of West Yorkshire’s largest and most diverse local authority fleet operations, maintaining around 1,700 vehicles, including specialist plant equipment that deliver essential frontline services across the district each day.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice trained to City & Guilds 380/383 Level 2, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent recognised standard.
  • Holds an LGV Class C or C+E Licence – or is willing to work towards obtaining one.
  • Strong technical and diagnostic skills.
  • Can work safely, efficiently and professionally under pressure.
  • Takes pride in delivering high quality workmanship.
  • Works well as part of a team and supports colleagues.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Reliable, adaptable and motivated.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and complex repairs to a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to high professional standards. The position involves physical duties including lifting, bending, kneeling and carrying, as well as occasional roadside and site repairs throughout the Bradford district in all weather conditions. You will need a proactive approach, the ability to respond to changing priorities and service demands in a busy operational workshop.
