Band 7/8: £28,142 to £33,699 per annum. 37 hours per week. Based at Harris Street Depot, you’ll work across the district in a high‑impact role, tackling waste crime and making Bradford a cleaner, safer place to live, work, and visit.
Responsibilities
- Respond to reports of fly‑tipping, littering, dog fouling, and waste burning.
- Investigate commercial and residential waste offences, ensuring proper and legal disposal of waste.
- Conduct surveillance using CCTV and deploy mobile cameras at environmental crime hotspots.
- Take formal enforcement action, from issuing fixed‑penalty notices to preparing prosecution files for court proceedings.
- Work side‑by‑side with West Yorkshire Police on stop‑and‑search operations, intercepting illegal waste carriers and disrupting organised waste crime at its source.
Qualifications
- Passionate about environmental protection and community wellbeing.
- Confident, resilient, and calm when faced with challenging situations.
- Experience in enforcement, regulatory, or investigative roles (minimum 3 years preferred).
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject, or strong applied knowledge and experience.
- Proficient in legislation related to waste and environmental crimes, including gathering evidence for legal action.
- Capable of using IT systems and technologies for reporting, evidence capture, and case management.
- Strong communication skills for engaging the public, businesses, and partner agencies.
- Full UK driving licence holder with business‑use insurance.
