We are seeking an exceptional investment professional to join West Yorkshire Pension Fund (WYPF) as Assistant Director WYPF - Strategic Investment Adviser. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a critical role in shaping the Fund’s strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability. You will ensure that investment activity aligns with organisational priorities and delivers strong, sustainable outcomes for stakeholders. A core aspect of the role is supporting the Managing Director in directing and overseeing the Fund’s asset pooling arrangements with Northern LGPS, which manages approximately £23bn of investment assets on behalf of West Yorkshire Pension Fund.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Fund’s Investment Strategy, ensuring compliance with LGPS Regulations.
  • Provide strategic oversight of the Northern LGPS Pool’s implementation of WYPF’s investment strategy.
  • Act as the primary client relationship lead between WYPF and the asset pool company.
  • Monitor investment performance, costs, and market activity, reporting regularly to the Advisory Panel (AP).
  • Maintain and evolve the Fund’s Responsible Investment Policy, working closely with the pool, Managing Director and AP.
  • Coordinate investment oversight activity including:
    • Collaborate with partner funds and stakeholders across the Northern LGPS Pool to drive alignment and shared objectives.
    • Provide expert investment advice to the Managing Director and Advisory Panel alongside the Independent Person.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance, transparency, and high standards of governance.
    • Represent WYPF at LGPS and wider pensions industry meetings and events.

You will have:

  • Strong Leadership, sound judgement and deep technical expertise.
  • A recognised qualification such as CCAB Accountancy qualification, or Investment/finance qualification (e.g. CFA, CISI, IIMR).
  • Significant investment management experience, ideally across multiple asset classes.
  • Strong understanding of global financial markets, investment strategies and products and LGPS regulatory framework.
  • Proven ability to lead complex strategic initiatives, manage senior stakeholder relationships and analyse performance and risk.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to senior audiences and elected members.
  • Strong organisational and planning capability in a fast-paced environment.
