Job Description

Our thriving Engineering and Motor Vehicle Department are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer to deliver an outstanding student learning experience, as you prepare young adults and experienced trade professionals to contribute to the modern world of work.

This is an excellent opportunity to share your practical knowledge within Mechanical Engineering and would suit someone with experience of working hands-on in a workshop environment who has an understanding of associated tools and machinery such as lathes, borers, millers, grinders etc.

Please note that this is a Part Time role working 14 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:

  • To teach on courses specified by the management team
  • To assist the management team in delivering high learning value, financially efficient programmes (including physical resource management) and to lead on innovation and efficiency in the delivery of learning
  • To be responsible for student's academic progress, wellbeing, behaviour management and careers and pastoral guidance throughout their learning journey
  • To seek out and respond to the student voice – seeing students as primary stakeholders in their learning
  • To help students develop modern, safe working practices and behaviours – in both technical (vocational skills) and employability skills.
  • To participate actively in the enrolment, monitoring, profiling and assessment of students
  • To proactively develop and promote close links with employer/industry partners
  • To create enriching, effective and inspirational programmes of learning that expose our students to real-life work experiences – including on and off campus

Education & Training

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • A relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale

Experience

  • Academic or industrial or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programme.
  • Experience in a workshop environment and practical knowledge of associated tools and machinery such as lathes, borers, millers, grinders etc.
  • Experience in Good teaching/training.
  • Experience of student pastoral care and disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of course leadership responsibilities.
