Due to department growth we are looking for a passionate Tutorial & Intervention Officer to join our Professional and Creative Department. As a Tutorial & Intervention Officer, you will support our students to succeed in gaining a qualification and develop their personal skills in a calm, friendly environment by ensuring our Positive Behaviour policies are applied. You will work with students to maximise their punctuality and attendance and liaise with parents/carers and partner school/organisations to ensure students are on target to achieve. Your approach with students should be respectful and professional at all times, exercising patience, empathy and understanding of their backgrounds and needs. You should have sound knowledge of the social, economic and personal factors which present risk to students, and be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity. This is a term-time role working 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake and record an agreed minimum number of individual one to one tutorial, using a range of information and indicators such as attendance, punctuality, behaviour, information supplied by the academic team (learning and assessment deadlines, assessment results, target grades and progress checks) with a focus on target setting for academic success across all qualifications of study, including English and Maths.
  • Support the application of the provisions Positive Behaviour policy.
  • Minimise disruption to learning and teaching by ensuring high expectations and standards with regard to compliant behaviour and behaviour for learning in line with the provisions Positive Behaviour Policy.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely recording of behaviour incidents and interventions.
  • Ensure students are punctual to lessons and move safely around the building.
  • To have an overview of the students' punctuality and attendance ensuring parents/carers and partner school/organisations are informed and involved.
  • Undertake proactive and reactive meetings with students (and their teachers and parents/carers where relevant) related to addressing issues of behaviour and provision standards.
  • Support the tutors by both supporting and disciplining students as and when appropriate.
  • Liaison with SEND Advisor and Student Safety and Welfare Officer to monitor patterns of negative behaviour and any external/support factors impacting behaviour.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale.
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale.
  • A level 3 Qualification or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe.

Experience

  • Successful experience of working with young people on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their career goals (in education, youth work or a community setting).
  • Proven experience of working with parents/carers of young people.
