Our exceptional Apprenticeships Department is recruiting for a Lecturer in Electrical Installation who can deliver an outstanding student experience to young adults and experienced trade professionals, effectively preparing them to contribute to the modern world of work. We welcome applications from both experienced teaching staff and individuals with extensive industry experience that are passionate about sharing their knowledge with the next generation. Please note that successful applicants that don't hold a teaching qualification will be supported to achieve this.

Responsibilities

  • To teach on courses specified by the management team in and out of college premises.
  • To assist the management team in delivering high learning value, financially efficient programmes (including physical resource management) and to lead on innovation and efficiency in the delivery of learning.
  • To be responsible for student’s academic progress, wellbeing, behaviour management and careers and pastoral guidance throughout their learning journey.
  • To seek out and respond to the student voice – seeing students as primary stakeholders in their learning.
  • To help students develop modern, safe working practices and behaviours – in both technical (vocational skills) and employability skills.
  • To participate actively in the enrolment, monitoring, profiling and assessment of students.
  • To proactively develop and promote close links with employer/industry partners.
  • To create enriching, effective and inspirational programmes of learning that expose our students to real-life work experiences – including on and off campus.
  • To treat students as individuals and develop personalised learning plans that drive their progress in learning, scaffold them to meet and exceed their targets and enable them to reach their career goals.

Role Eligibility

This role may be eligible for the levelling up premium payment of up to £6,000 for FE teachers for those meeting the criteria set by the Department for Education. This involves a government payment for successful candidates from an industry background. The application window for this usually opens in Autumn each year, for claims for the previous academic year.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale.

  • Relevant industry and/or vocational experience in the subject specialism being taught (Electrical Installation).
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation.
  • A recognised teaching qualification or a willingness to complete one within 2 years of commencing the role.

Experience

  • Academic, industrial or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programme.
  • Experience in good teaching/training.
  • Experience of student pastoral care and disciplinary procedures.
  • Ability to utilise Information Technology and Information, Learning and Technology both within learning and for administrative purposes.
  • A proven track record of industry practice, demonstrating personal achievement and professionalism.
