We have an exciting opportunity to join our Progression to Learning & Work Department as a Curriculum Team Leader for English & Maths. This is a key role in the development of a devolved English and maths delivery strategy. The English and Maths Curriculum Team Leaders are responsible for supporting curriculum planning with a remission for teaching to be determined by the Head of Department according to Departmental need. Your role is also to support the Heads of Department in the planning, assessment, and development of teaching staff, as well as the continued successful delivery of an English and Maths curriculum that serves both vocational needs and the College’s wider English and Maths strategy. You will ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of learners, business and the community and that learners receive a high-quality learner experience. You will provide inspirational leadership for staff and students.
Responsibilities:
- To be responsible for supporting the HoD with curriculum planning, including projects that integrate & contextualise the vocational curriculum in alignment with the English & maths delivery.
- To lead, in partnership with & supported by, the LTA team, the creation & evolution of a programme of CPD for the development of English & maths teachers within the college.
- To lead the planning, delivery and assessment of English and maths qualifications for all vocational pathways for study programme learners within the relevant curriculum areas.
- To lead on the input of English and maths within the Ambition Hub project for your vocational department.
- To be responsible for the delivery of consistent teaching cover provision for staff absences within the English and Maths delivery team within your vocational department.
- To be responsible for leading enhancement and enrichment opportunities specifically relating to English & Maths in collaboration with curriculum areas and other key departments.
- To support the Head of Department in the planning, innovation, design and development of curriculum programmes and cross-college marketing activities.
- To promote excellent teaching and effective learning across the curriculum area, to support LTA improvement practice and to disseminate and share good practice across the College.
- To line manage a team of English and maths lecturers within your assigned vocational departments.
- To teach GCSE and Functional Skills English courses specified by the Head of Department within the designated vocational department within the College.
- To devise individual learning plans and provide support for learners to drive their progress in learning, to meet/exceed their targets and enable them to reach their career goals.
- To provide support for teaching staff to improve LTA.
- To be responsible for students’ academic progress, wellbeing, positive behaviour and careers throughout their learning journey.
- To seek out and respond to the student voice – seeing students as primary stakeholders in their learning.

Education & Training:
- A Level 5 qualification in English or Maths.
- A recognised teaching qualification.
- GCSE 4-9 (A*- C) or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent.
- Or prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale.
- QTLS Status is desirable but not essential.
Experience:
- Experience in managing curriculum delivery within Further Education.
- Experience in course development and recruitment.
- Experience in student pastoral care and disciplinary procedures.
- Experience in the interpretation of data sets to inform and enable performance management.
- Academic or industrial or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programme.
- Ability to utilise Information Technology and Information, Learning and Technology both within learning and for administrative purposes.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Experience in Good teaching/training.
- Experience in course leadership responsibilities.
