We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Early Years, Education & Social Care department as an Early Years Assessor. As an Early Years Assessor, you will act as the main point of contact for employers and students, providing workshops, creating action plans, observing in the workplace and feeding back on progress as required. You will undertake assessments in the workplace and in college, ensuring that a professional image is portrayed at all times. This is a term‑time role working 2 days per week, 40 weeks per year.
Responsibilities
- To deliver supportive workshops in college, preparing students for their work placements and providing evidence towards their observations and assessment of skills.
- To undertake timely assessment of students against the national standards and to record all assessment decisions to meet the awarding body/professional body requirements in line with the assessment cycle.
- Manage a caseload of students, setting SMART targets / writing action plans to ensure timely progress and achievement of all required components of the qualification.
- To undertake timely workplace observations, where appropriate and upload all related work activities and progress information onto the online portfolio promptly, ensuring accurate tracking of student progression.
- For T Level Education and Early Years, complete the Early Years Educator observations and the structured, graded observations in line with awarding body requirements and timelines.
- To work with the moderator to complete the standardisation activity for moderation and agree on dates for the moderator to co‑observe.
- To complete all assessment paperwork as required by the organisation, the awarding/professional bodies, and other external agencies to a high standard.
- Produce accurate and up‑to‑date reports as requested.
- Communicate effectively with the work placement provider regarding progress and achievements.
- Be responsive in the reporting of students who are falling behind quickly, and agree on detailed action plans with the student and course leader/work placement employer to provide the required support to promote achievement.
- Support a caseload of students both in college and in the work placement.

Education & Training
- A Level 3 qualification in Early Years or other relevant subject area.
- GCSE 4-9 (A*- C) or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent. (e.g. CSE 1, O Level A – C) Or prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale.
- Assessor Award (TDLB / D32 or A1) or willing to work towards within an agreed timescale.
Experience
- Recent industry experience within Early Years/and/or primary.
- Proven experience in accurately and timely assessing in the workplace/classroom.
- Experience of assessing at T‑level Education and Early Years is desirable but not essential.
