We are looking for a passionate Hairdressing Lecturer to join our dedicated 14-16 Alternate Provision Department.

The 14-16 provision caters for approximately 200 young people who are accessing an alternative education programme, either as a referral from their current secondary school or as home-educated children. The provision has learners with a range of backgrounds and academic abilities, some with EHCPs and others with undiagnosed additional learning needs as well as social, emotional and behavioural issues. We are a nurturing provision that prides itself on a strong pastoral and well-being support network.

Your approach with students should be respectful and professional at all times, exercising patience, empathy and understanding of their backgrounds and needs. You should have sound knowledge of the social, economic and personal factors which present risk to students, and be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.

It is a part-time role working 10.5 hours per week.

As part of the government-targeted retention payment scheme, you may be eligible for a payment of up to £6000, dependent on the subject/courses you teach.

Responsibilities

  • To teach courses specified by the Departmental Leadership Team.
  • To participate actively in curriculum development; and where appropriate in cross-college marketing activities.
  • To participate actively in the enrolment, induction, monitoring, profiling and initial assessment of students or trainees.
  • To devise individual learning plans and provide support for learners in line with the requirements of the course.
  • To be responsible to the Head of Department for student discipline, counselling and guidance for all assigned classes.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and management of students on placements and offsite visits and activities where appropriate.
  • To maintain records of formative and summative assessments of students’ learning carried out to report accurately on the progress of both individuals and groups.
  • To pro-actively contribute to the success and vision of the department
  • To undertake programme leadership duties as specified by your line manager or the Head of Department
  • To contribute to course development and keep up to date with any industry or education reforms. To contribute to the development of new programmes of study demonstrating an inclusive and collaborative approach to delivery
  • To act as academic and pastoral tutor to assigned students.
  • To implement and promote College regulations, policies and procedures.
  • To participate in relevant Course Committee activities and ensure that the student voice informs curriculum design.
  • To participate in recruitment and marketing activities as specified by your line manager or Head of Department

Education & Training

  • Level 3 Qualification or subject specialism in Hairdressing
  • A relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale

Experience

  • Academic or industrial or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programme.
  • Experience in Good teaching/training.
  • Experience of student pastoral care and disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of course leadership responsibilities.
