Bradford and Marsh are recruiting for an experienced Senior HGV Technician / Deputy Fleet Engineer to join a well-established specialist logistics and transport provider based in Middlewich. This is a rare opportunity for a senior-level technician to step into a hands-on leadership role, working closely with the Fleet Engineer and supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of a complex and bespoke fleet of vehicles and equipment. You’ll be involved not only in day-to-day workshop operations, but also in planning, quality control, and supporting the development of new and existing equipment to meet evolving business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate workshop capacity alongside the Maintenance Desk (up to 6 weeks ahead)
- Supervise and work alongside a team of technicians within the workshop
- Carry out pre- and post-work inspections, ensuring all work meets required standards
- Create detailed worksheets and agree major repairs or costs with the Fleet Engineer
- Monitor progress against plans and report daily to the maintenance team
- Oversee parts and stores within the workshop
- Conduct quality inspections on both internal work and third-party providers
- Support and deputise for the Fleet Engineer during periods of absence
- Attend weekly meetings to review maintenance plans and operational performance
Requirements:
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in an HGV Technician role, with supervisory or leadership experience
- Valid HGV C+E driving licence (essential)
- NVQ / City & Guilds qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring technicians
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a “can-do” attitude
- Good understanding of legal and compliance requirements within the industry
- IRTE membership and/or Transport CPC (desirable)
