Bradford and Marsh are recruiting for an experienced Export Freight Operator to join a busy and well-established shipping company based in Barking, East London. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you will take full ownership of shipments, managing the end-to-end export process from booking through to final delivery. You'll ensure all documentation is accurate, customs requirements are met, and customers are kept fully informed throughout the shipment lifecycle. You'll work closely with carriers, suppliers, customs brokers, finance teams, and internal operations, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a collaborative logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end export process, from booking through to final delivery
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, shipping lines, and customs brokers to ensure smooth operations
  • Prepare and maintain all import/export documentation, including:
  • Commercial invoices
  • Packing lists
  • Bills of lading / air waybills
  • Certificates of origin
  • Ensure compliance with UK customs regulations and international trade laws
  • Submit customs declarations and supporting documentation electronically
  • Track and monitor shipments to ensure deadlines and budgets are met
  • Handle invoicing processes, including issuing invoices and resolving billing queries
  • Work closely with finance to ensure accurate costings and payments
  • Collaborate with internal teams (warehouse, transport, customer service)
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on shipment progress and delays
  • Requirements

    • Minimum 3+ years' experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or import/export operations
    • Strong experience with export documentation and customs procedures
    • Good understanding of international shipping practices and trade compliance
    • Experience submitting customs declarations
    • Confident using freight software systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
    • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
    • Knowledge of tariff codes and duty rates (highly desirable)
    • Experience with invoicing and billing processes within logistics/freight
