Our Technical team is growing, and we are looking for a Food Technologist to join us. The successful candidate will work closely with the Technical and Quality teams to deliver accurate information and documentation for customers, liaising with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support specifications, processes and customer‑facing requirements. The role will also provide exposure to different areas of the Technical team, helping the successful candidate develop the skills and knowledge required to succeed.

The role
Key responsibilities:
- Customer specifications and compliance: Produce and maintain key retail and foodservice customer specifications for both new and existing products, using customer web‑based or paper systems. Ensure specifications meet customer technical standards, legal requirements and current legislation for food handling and packing. Keep the business informed of customer policy and procedural changes, and support their effective implementation.
- Quality management and reporting: Support the Quality Department with the management of the QMS and BRC certification requirements. Prepare monthly technical reports in line with customer requirements. Manage raw material and packaging supplier specifications in line with company QMS requirements.
- New product development and site standards: Facilitate and coordinate the company’s new product development process, including managing new line forms from a technical perspective. Support high standards of hygiene, housekeeping, and health and safety across relevant work areas. Ensure relevant paperwork and administration are completed accurately and to the required standard.
The Candidate
Qualifications and technical background:
- Hold a food focused qualification e.g. Food Technology, Food Science, Food Engineering, Nutrition, Chemistry etc.
- Knowledge of food safety standards, Food Safety Level 3 (minimum), HACCP Level 3 (minimum) and Allergen management.
- Understanding of ingredients, shelf life, preservation.
- Work with laboratory equipment e.g. pH testing, microbiology basics etc.
Experience and industry awareness:
- Food manufacturing, quality assurance (QA), production environments, compliance, new product development environment.
- Relevant previous roles may include Graduate Food Technologist, QA Technician, Quality Assistant, NPD Assistant, Food Safety Assistant or Compliance Assistant.
- Experience in catering, hospitality or retail food environments (suitable at junior level).
Skills and working style:
- Strong verbal, numerical and data interpretation skills, with the ability to use information to make sound decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail, IT capability, organisation and documentation skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks effectively, work to targets and timescales, and remain focused under pressure.
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with strong problem‑solving skills and the confidence to take responsibility for decisions and actions.
- Good communication and customer‑facing skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, suppliers and customers.
- Positive, tenacious and improvement‑focused, with enthusiasm for delivering high standards.

- BRCGS standards (food safety certification).
