Landshare Manager – part-time, 21 hrs per week, initially 6 months FTC
This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of Jealott\’s Hill Community Landshare. Our project focuses on people’s wellbeing, gardening and the outdoor environment. We are supported by volunteers led by the Landshare Manager who maintain our 6-acre site and run events, growing vegetables, fruit and flowers for a pop-up shop. The Landshare supports a diverse group of volunteers and aims to empower people through gardening and outdoor activity.

The Role
- Reporting to the Directors you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Landshare, including cultivation, maintenance and use of all site areas, facilities and tools.
- Work with the Directors to ensure the Landshare presents a safe, welcoming environment for visitors and volunteers.
- Lead on liaising with the local community, recruiting and supporting volunteers, marketing our services and managing those on site.
- The part-time Horticultural Assistant will report to you.
- Coordinate and motivate a diverse group of volunteers, facilitating their growth and development as appropriate.
- Manage and support the Horticultural Assistant alongside the volunteer Gardening Co-ordinator.
- Optimise the safe use of the Landshare by varied groups and agencies on an ad-hoc and sessional basis, negotiating contracts and funding where applicable.
- Work closely with the Directors on day-to-day and strategic matters and act as an ambassador for the Landshare with external organisations and at events.
- Liaise with the Treasurer and administrative volunteers on financial and administrative tasks, including record keeping and local fundraising.
- Contribute to communications and maintain an up-to-date social media profile for the Landshare.
- Report monthly to the Director’s meeting.
- Be the primary contact with the Landowner Syngenta.
- Take overall responsibility for running events and provide practical guidance and hands-on support as required.
- Cover for the Horticultural Assistant in their absence.
Preferred Person Specification
It is hoped that candidates demonstrate most of the following areas, which may be gained in voluntary or work capacity:
- Experience of community project management and development, including safe and effective event management.
- Experience of managing volunteers and motivating/supporting those from diverse backgrounds, delegating as appropriate.
- Experience of working with people with vulnerabilities and disabilities.
- Patience, empathy, respect, confidentiality and collaborative approach.
- Strong communication, organisational and collaborative skills.
- Proficiency in administrative tasks, IT tools, social media and basic bookkeeping.
- Understanding of health and safety and legislative requirements.
- Coaching and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of health and social care systems and collaboration with professionals.
- Some experience and knowledge of horticulture; basic DIY skills.
- Common sense, pragmatism, initiative and ability to work independently within the aims of the Landshare.
- Creativity and the ability to think creatively.
- Flexible, multi-tasking and good time management.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
- Live local to the Landshare.
- First Aid trained or willing to undergo training.
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced disclosure check.
Terms And Conditions
- Part-time, 21 hours per week, initially for a six-month term.
- Flexible hours to meet project requirements: on site Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and one Saturday morning per month.
- Salary: £20 per hour.
- Free on-site parking; PPE provided.
- The position is offered on a salaried fixed-term contract or on a self-employed basis.
