We are looking for a Relief Senior Social Worker (Children's Services) with 2+ years of experience as a Senior Social Worker, preferably in referral, assessment and child protection teams, and a current Social Work England registration. The ideal candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of children’s legal framework, government legislation and directives relevant to children, young people and families; extensive experience undertaking complex Section 47 enquiries; and experience managing complex cases including safeguarding, child in need, children with mental health and behavioural issues, and implementing a range of interventions. They should also possess knowledge of legislation and policy underpinning all areas of social care, experience across the disciplines of social care, and demonstrate core social care values. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with assessment and negotiation skills, are essential.

The Berkshire Emergency Duty Service (hosted by Bracknell Forest Council) provides out‑of‑hours emergency social care for the whole of Berkshire. The team enjoys strong support, excellent management relationships, and access to expert advice whenever needed.

Key responsibilities
  • Respond to all child protection, child in need, children looked after and children’s mental health calls that present out of hours, as per the children’s legal framework and related guidance.
  • Handle other social care emergencies, including housing and adult social care cases, as part of the generic Emergency Duty Service (EDS).
  • Receive training on the relevant legislation, practice and processes to enable you to function as a practitioner with generic social work knowledge.
