Join Bracknell Forest Council as a Relief Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) on a casual basis, stepping in at critical moments to deliver high‑quality interventions and respond to Mental Health Act (MHA) assessment requests when they matter most.
About the team: Berkshire Emergency Duty Service (EDS) is a specialist team of Approved Mental Health Professionals, Senior Adults and Children’s Social Workers, Adult Safeguarding Care Coordinators and Call Screening Officers. The team works with health colleagues, police and other stakeholders to support service users across all age groups in social care and mental health crises.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and prioritise social care requirements for out‑of‑hours cases.
- Deliver an emergency assessment and action service when adults and children are identified as being at immediate risk.
- Act as the expert adviser and deliver quality interventions for patients.
- Participate actively in reflective practice group sessions.
- Provide out‑of‑hours emergency social care and homelessness support for the whole of Berkshire.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures relating to AMHP work and participate on relevant multi‑agency working parties when required.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Qualified AMHP registered with an appropriate professional body (e.g. Social Work England, HCPC or NMC).
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), social care legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Commitment to work a minimum of two shifts per month (including overnight cover where available).
- Comfortable using IT systems, producing clear, high‑quality reports and communicating with impact.
- Strong organisational skills, able to manage workload and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to challenge, whether with the public or partner professionals, and to act with professional values and integrity.
- Experience working within the current Social Care System and Framework.
