We are seeking a passionate Early Help Professional (Young Carers) to join us in supporting children and young people who take on caring responsibilities at home.
About you
The Young Carers Service provides vital support to children and young people who take on emotional or practical caring responsibilities for a family member who is disabled, physically or mentally unwell, or affected by substance misuse. We are seeking someone who is driven, empathetic and highly attuned to the safeguarding challenges young carers may experience.
About the team
Our team is driven and ambitious, fully committed to ensuring the voices of young carers are heard, their rights are protected and they receive the support needed to reach their full potential. While we do not case‑hold, we work closely with families to improve outcomes. We balance remote working with in‑person engagement events, meetings and assessments while continuing to develop our young carers offer.
Key responsibilities
- Champion the rights and needs of young carers, proactively triage and process referrals, coordinate needs assessments and reviews, and coordinate multi‑agency support plans that reduce inappropriate caring, safeguard and promote wellbeing, protect education and support smooth transitions (16‑18) into adult services.
- Lead on timely, high‑quality transition assessments for young carers approaching adulthood.
- Develop interventions and approaches for young people aged up to 18 to take part in a range of universal activities that support their wellbeing, development and support them with their responsibilities as a young carer.
- Provide support, advice and training to other professionals, such as social workers and Early Help Professionals on Young Carers as required and act as an expert for the agenda within their responsibility.
