Conduct independent assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

Review restrictive care arrangements to ensure they comply with the law and protect service users\’ rights.

Promote understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DoLS among health and social care professionals, service users, and carers.

Treat everyone fairly and with respect, using a strength-based approach.

Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and partner agencies, encouraging teamwork.

We seek a candidate who can independently assess under DoLS and ensure care arrangements follow legal requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and relationship-building skills, experience working with individuals, families, advocates, and partner agencies, and knowledge of The Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, DoLS, Mental Health Act, and Data Protection Act.

Requirements:

  • Current DoLS Best Interests Assessor (BIA) qualification.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the BIA role, including recent assessments (within the last year).
  • Completed annual DoLS/BIA legal update training within the last twelve months.
  • A valid driving license.

About the team: This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified, enthusiastic, and capable BIA to join our Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards team in Bracknell. We are a supportive team passionate about our work.

Candidates must provide evidence of appropriate Social Work/Nursing/Occupational Therapist qualification or Chartered Psychologist with 2 years post-qualified experience, current registration with the relevant body (e.g., Social Work England), and a BIA qualification aligned with DoLS legislation.

Experience working within the current social care system and framework is essential.

Social Work England registration fees can be claimed back from the Council.
