We are working closely with local authority in Nottinghamshire to assist with the appointment of a Chef, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £15.50- £20.25 per hour

Summary: The Chef (NJE GR 3) is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, balanced, and appealing meals for adults with a wide range of support needs, including dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, and complex physical health needs. The postholder will ensure high standards of food quality, hygiene, safety, and customer service while supporting the wellbeing, dignity, and dietary requirements of service users. The role also includes stock management, food ordering, kitchen administration, supervision of catering support staff, and maintaining compliance with food safety legislation and Council procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on time while maintaining consistent portion control and presentation standards.
  • Maintain excellent standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with food safety legislation and organisational policies.
  • Follow the Safer Food Better Business procedures and all internal food hygiene and health & safety requirements.
  • Ensure all deliveries are stored appropriately and safely.
  • Provide guidance, support, and task allocation to the Catering Assistant to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Prepare the kitchen for daily operation and ensure all cleaning and closing procedures are completed at the end of service.

Essentials:

  • Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Basic Food Allergen Awareness knowledge
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures within a catering environment.
  • Previous experience working in a catering, hospitality, or kitchen environment.
  • Experience preparing meals for large groups or within care, healthcare, or community settings.
  • Experience maintaining food hygiene standards and completing food safety documentation.
  • Experience managing stock, ordering supplies, and reducing food waste.
