Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is seeking dedicated and reliable Street Cleaners to perform essential cleaning and maintenance services across the Rhondda area. This vital role directly contributes to the public's health, safety, and the overall appearance of the local communities. The work is physically active and primarily involves litter picking, manual sweeping, and the emptying of public waste bins.
Responsibilities:- Litter pick streets, footpaths, lanes, and public spaces throughout the Rhondda Valley to remove all forms of litter, debris, and dumped waste.
- Empty and clean public waste bins, including general waste bins and designated dog waste bins, ensuring they are ready for the next usage cycle.
- Identify and report instances of fly-tipping or large item dumping to the appropriate supervisor or department for prompt removal.
- Safely collect, bag, and move collected waste to designated collection points or vehicles in preparation for disposal.
- Operate basic manual cleaning equipment, such as brooms, shovels, and litter pickers, efficiently and safely.
- Adhere strictly to all Council health, safety, and environmental policies, particularly concerning manual handling, waste segregation, and working safely in public areas.
- Ability to perform continuous manual tasks, including walking long distances, bending, lifting, and pushing/pulling loads (e.g., full waste bins) throughout a shift.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures related to handling waste and working in busy public and traffic areas.
- Previous experience in a similar environmental services, street cleaning, or manual labour role.
