We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Somerset to assist with the appointment of a Streetworks Inspector, on a 5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Streetworks Inspector to join the highways team supporting the inspection and compliance of street works activities across Somerset. The successful candidate will inspect live street works and completed reinstatements to ensure compliance with NRSWA legislation, permit conditions, SROH standards, and the Safety at Street Works & Road Works Code of Practice. This is a field-based role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently across multiple sites daily.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect live street works sites and completed reinstatements across Somerset
- Ensure compliance with NRSWA, permit conditions, SROH standards, and safety codes of practice
- Identify defective works and issue remedial actions where required
- Carry out follow-up inspections to ensure compliance is achieved
- Record inspection outcomes using handheld devices and systems such as Confirm and Street Manager
Essential Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of street works legislation and highway compliance
- Experience inspecting street works or highways activities
- Good geographical knowledge of Somerset and strong navigation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a large number of daily inspections
- Confident dealing with live on-site situations and challenging environments
- Experience using electronic inspection systems and handheld devices
- Full UK driving licence
