We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Slough to assist with the appointment of a Senior Democratic Services Officer, on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £276.80 - £374.00 per day

Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to provide high-quality democratic, governance and committee support across the Council. The successful candidate will act as lead officer for allocated committees, provide procedural advice to members and officers, prepare agendas and minutes, support democratic decision-making processes, and contribute to governance projects and member development.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support Council committees, panels and scrutiny meetings, including preparing agendas, reports, minutes and statutory notices.
  • Provide expert procedural and constitutional advice to councillors, officers and members of the public.
  • Attend and clerk committee meetings, including evening meetings, ensuring accurate records and governance compliance.
  • Support member development programmes, democratic processes, governance projects, FOI requests, complaints and other corporate governance activities.
  • Conduct research, prepare reports and briefing papers, and mentor junior staff while supporting continuous service improvement.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.

Essentials:

  • Committee administration and democratic services experience.
  • Strong knowledge of local government governance, committee procedures and constitutional processes.
  • Excellent minute-taking, report writing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide procedural advice confidently to councillors and senior officers.
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and committee management systems.
