We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Rugby to assist with the appointment of a Senior Democratic Services Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £18.35 - £23.23 per hour

Rugby Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to oversee the day-to-day operation of the Democratic Services team and lead the Council's Scrutiny function. This role involves supervising two Democratic Services Officers, supporting committee services, preparing agendas and minutes, and working closely with Councillors, senior officers, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and support two Democratic Services Officers
  • Lead the Council's Scrutiny function
  • Prepare and publish agendas, reports and minutes for committees
  • Support Councillors, committees and working groups
  • Conduct research and prepare reports for scrutiny reviews
Qualifications:
  • Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO) Diploma or equivalent qualification OR significant senior experience working within a Democratic Services team
Essentials:
  • Experience working within Democratic Services in a Local Authority
  • Experience servicing committees, including preparing agendas, reports and minutes
  • Experience supporting Scrutiny Committees and democratic processes
  • Team leadership/supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills with strong political awareness
