We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Tower Hamlets to assist with the appointment of a Payroll Officer , on a 2.5-month contract , likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay : £22.85 – £29.75 per hour

Summary:

The Payroll Officer (Corporate and Schools) is responsible for delivering a responsive, professional, and customer-focused payroll service. The role involves ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and council financial regulations, and providing expert payroll advice. The Payroll Officer also contributes to service improvements, staff training, and overall payroll efficiency while managing a small team of Payroll Advisors.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert payroll advice on legislation, regulations, and conditions of service.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing within compliance standards.
  3. Supervise and coordinate the work of Payroll Advisors (up to 3 staff).
  4. Maintain payroll database integrity and financial compliance.
  5. Reconcile payroll records with general ledger systems.

Experience:

  1. Experience of utilising Payroll/HR systems.
  2. Experience of managing staff.
  3. Experience of researching, preparing, and drafting concise correspondence including reports.

Please note:

  1. You should be available to work immediately or at short notice.
  2. You should have the right to work in the U.K.
  3. This role requires a basic DBS .
