We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in North Yorkshire to assist with the appointment of a Buyer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary: We are recruiting for a Buyer to join a busy Commercial Team, supporting the procurement of materials, plant, and services for highways maintenance operations. This is a fast-paced role where you'll manage purchasing activities, build supplier relationships, negotiate value-for-money solutions, and ensure materials are delivered on time to keep operational projects running smoothly.
Responsibilities:
- Process purchase requisitions and raise purchase orders accurately and efficiently.
- Source new suppliers in line with procurement and contract procedure rules.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Negotiate competitive prices while ensuring quality and delivery requirements are met.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs and management information.
Essentials:
- Previous purchasing or procurement experience (highways maintenance or public sector experience is highly desirable).
- Experience processing purchase orders and managing supplier relationships.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data input and reporting.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
