We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Isle of Wight to assist with the appointment of a Maintenance Operative, on a 10-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £16.30 - £21.31 per hour

Summary: An opportunity has arisen for a Public Rights of Way Maintenance Operative to support the maintenance and upkeep of the Isle of Wight's 500-mile public rights of way network. The role involves carrying out a wide range of outdoor maintenance duties to ensure public pathways remain safe, accessible, and well maintained.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair public rights of way across the Island
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance on machinery, tools, and 4x4 vehicles
  • Cut back hedges, clear rough verges, and carry out site clearance work
  • Fell small trees and remove fallen branches and debris
  • Install and maintain gates, stiles, bridges, steps, fencing, and signage

Qualifications:

  • GCSE level qualifications or equivalent experience
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent
  • Relevant certification for chainsaw operation, cross cutting, and health & safety

Essential Requirements:

  • Full current UK driving licence
  • Experience within countryside, grounds maintenance, agricultural, or similar outdoor environments
  • Ability to safely operate machinery and hand tools including strimmers and chainsaws
  • Relevant certificates/licences for chainsaw and cross-cutting operations
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities and safe working practices
