We are working closely with local authority in Newport to assist with the appointment of a Driver/Operative, on a 5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: Β£101.23- Β£132.87 per day
Summary:
The Driver/Operative is responsible for delivering high-quality cleansing and environmental maintenance services across Newport City Council's operational areas. The role involves carrying out a range of street cleansing, waste collection, and environmental maintenance duties while safely operating Council vehicles where authorised. Working as part of the Cleansing team, the postholder ensures that public spaces are maintained to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental quality, contributing to the Council's commitment to delivering efficient frontline services and excellent customer care.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out street cleansing, environmental maintenance, and associated operational duties in accordance with service standards and work schedules.
- Drive Council vehicles safely and responsibly in accordance with road traffic legislation, Council policies, and driver operating procedures.
- Load, transport, and dispose of waste and cleansing materials safely and in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Assist with refuse collection, litter picking, fly-tip removal, leaf clearance, and other environmental maintenance activities as required.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, safe systems of work, manual handling procedures, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards, accidents, vehicle defects, environmental issues, and incidents to supervisors promptly.
Qualifications:
- Full, valid UK driving licence appropriate for the vehicles operated.
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy sufficient to complete operational documentation and follow work instructions.
Essentials:
- Experience working in an outdoor operational, environmental, cleansing, highways, maintenance, or waste services environment.
- Experience operating work vehicles or commercial vehicles safely.
- Experience following health and safety procedures in a physically demanding environment.
- Good knowledge of road safety and vehicle operating procedures.
- Understanding of Health and Safety legislation relevant to operational services.
