We are working closely alongside a local authority in Bexley to assist with the appointment of a Senior Auditor on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client's discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary

The London Borough of Bexley is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Auditor for a temporary, interim position within the Assurance and Risk team. The primary purpose of this role is to support the Internal Audit team in the successful delivery of the annual Internal Audit Plan. The Senior Auditor will manage and execute their own varied portfolio of audit assignments, providing critical assurance on the effectiveness of the Council's systems of internal control, risk management, and governance processes. This role requires working closely with senior management to drive meaningful improvements in operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the internal audit team in providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of the Council's internal control, risk management, and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Research, plan, and prepare draft terms of reference for assigned audit engagements, submitting them for approval by the Internal Audit Manager and the Head of Assurance.
  • Consider the risks identified by Council Services and work with management to ensure that controls adequately address these risks, verifying their effective operation.
  • Adhere strictly to the Global Internal Auditing Standards and the Council's policies on diversity, equal opportunities, and health and safety.
  • Keep fully informed of the latest developments in relevant legislation, regulations (including accountancy and audit regulations), risk methodologies, and audit techniques.
  • Develop working practices and processes that maximise the use of new technology to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of audit services.

Essentials

  • Part or fully qualified in ACA, ACCA, CIA, or an alternative relevant qualification. (Candidates who are part-qualified and currently part-way through their exams will be considered).
  • Over 3 years of demonstrable on-the-job internal auditing experience.
  • Proven ability to research, plan, execute, and report on a varied portfolio of internal audit assignments.
  • Experience in working closely with senior management to agree on and drive corrective actions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, including competence in data analysis and data mining.
  • Working knowledge of the Global Internal Auditing Standards.
