We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwark to assist with the appointment of a Hostel Caretaker, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary: The Hostel Caretaker will help maintain a clean, safe, and well-managed environment across the council's supported hostel accommodation sites. The role involves carrying out cleaning, maintenance, waste management, and basic premises-related duties while supporting the efficient turnaround of vacant accommodation units.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain clean, safe, and hygienic internal and external areas across supported hostel accommodation sites.
  • Carry out routine and deep cleaning duties, waste management, minor repairs, and report maintenance faults as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of vacant rooms for new residents, including clearing, cleaning, setting up furniture, and preparing beds.
  • Support Supported Pathways Officers with room inventories, packing residents' belongings, and moving items into secure storage in line with council procedures.
  • Maintain COSHH records and ensure the safe storage, handling, and use of cleaning products and hazardous substances.
  • Maintain an appliance register and coordinate annual PAT testing of council and, where required, residents' electrical appliances.

Essentials:

  • Previous experience in cleaning, caretaking, facilities, hostel, housing, or building maintenance environments.
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling and physically demanding tasks.
  • Experience preparing accommodation or void properties for occupation is desirable.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and inventories.

Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at short notice. You should have the right to work in the U.K. This role requires an Enhanced DBS.
