Summary: The Child Protection Conference Chair is a senior independent safeguarding professional responsible for leading and chairing Child Protection Conferences, Young Person Safety (Contextual Harm) Planning Meetings, and other statutory safeguarding forums to ensure that children and young people receive effective protection and support. The role ensures that statutory child protection procedures, safeguarding legislation, and local practice standards are consistently applied, while promoting high-quality decision-making that improves outcomes for vulnerable children and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Chair statutory Child Protection Conferences, Review Conferences, and Young Person Safety (Contextual Harm) Planning Meetings in accordance with national legislation, London Child Protection Procedures, and local safeguarding policies.
- Ensure conferences are child-centred, evidence-based, inclusive, and focused on achieving positive safeguarding outcomes.
- Meet with children independently, where appropriate, to ensure their wishes and feelings inform safeguarding decisions.
- Monitor the progress and effectiveness of Child Protection Plans and Young Person Safety Plans, ensuring timely implementation and reviewing any delays or drift.
- Support the continuous development of safeguarding policies, procedures, practice standards, and quality assurance frameworks.
Qualifications:
- Degree or recognised professional qualification in Social Work.
Essentials:
- Registration with Social Work England.
- Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care, including work with children in need, child protection, and looked after children.
- Experience providing professional challenge and quality assurance within safeguarding practice.
- Experience conducting case audits, practice reviews, and quality assurance activities.
