We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Greenwich to assist with the appointment of a Local Plan Engagement Officer, on a 2.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client's discretion. Summary

The Local Plan Engagement Officer will support the Royal Borough of Greenwich to ensure that local communities are informed, involved and influential in shaping the borough's new Local Plan. The postholder will work with residents, community groups, planning colleagues and partners to deliver high-quality, accessible and innovative engagement that places residents at the centre of policy development. The role will focus on planning-related engagement, ensuring that diverse voices including those seldom heard are meaningfully included in shaping spatial planning policies, regeneration proposals and long-term place-making decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engagement activities relating to the Local Plan, planning policy consultations, regeneration programmes and borough-wide planning initiatives.
  • Support the creation of clear, accessible engagement materials such as maps, summaries, flyers, social media content, newsletters and online resources ensuring they are jargon-free and tailored to diverse community audiences.
  • Work with internal and external partners, including voluntary and community organisations, to maximise outreach into all parts of the community.
  • Build strong working relationships with community groups, councillors, planning officers, third-sector partners and statutory agencies.
  • Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with Council values, equalities commitments, health and safety practices, and GDPR/data protection requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in planning, community engagement, public policy, regeneration, social sciences or a related field.

Requirements

  • Proven training or professional development in community engagement, consultation or stakeholder management.
  • Experience delivering community engagement or public consultation activities, ideally within planning, regeneration or place-making.
  • Experience organising events and workshops, both online and in person, including coordinating logistics and managing contractors or facilitators.
  • Experience producing engagement materials and communication content for a range of audiences.
  • Experience working with diverse community groups, including vulnerable or seldom-heard populations.
  • Experience working in partnership with internal stakeholders, third-sector organisations or local community groups.
