We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwark to assist with the appointment of a Lead Climber/Team Leader, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration. Rate of Pay: £18.94 - £24.96 per hour.

Summary: To supervise and lead a team of Arborists to ensure that work is carried out as per the contract specification and schedules in the Borough and other contracted areas as required. To work as an experienced member of the team. To manage the risk on site that the work presents and to ensure the safety of the team and the public whilst tree works are being undertaken as far as can reasonably be expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out high quality arboricultural maintenance operations effectively and efficiently in accordance with the specification, ensuring that all service specifications and key performance targets are met and consistently high standards of work are maintained.
  • To manage and lead a team of tree operatives to successfully undertake tree work operations and ensure professionalism at all times and work operations are carried out according to specification, required timescales and with due regard to health and safety and all other relevant legislation and standards.
  • Carry out and supervise specified arboricultural work programs as per the requirements of BS:3998: 2010 (or current standard), undertaking duties such as but not limited to tree removal, pruning, pest and disease management, stump grinding, tree planting, aftercare and watering in open spaces, highway locations and non-Council sites as and when required by line managers.
  • Oversee and take responsibility relevant to the post for the on-site working environment, ensuring safety of self, colleagues and members of the public, carrying out ground and aerial operations and providing traffic management controls to ensure compliance with the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
  • Undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and training to assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • A nationally recognised arboricultural qualification or the willingness to gain one.
  • Proven working knowledge and application of key arboricultural skills including knowledge and practice of arboricultural operations to BS 3998: 2010 and BS 8545: 2014 (or current standards).
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work act and relevant safe working practice.
  • Good working knowledge of arboricultural vehicles, machinery and equipment and its operational use.

Requirements:

  • Hold the following NPTC certificates (or their equivalent): CS30 Maintain and operate the chainsaw, CS38 Climb trees and perform aerial rescue, CS39 Use of the chainsaw from a rope and harness, CS41 (003932) Aerial Tree Rigging Level 3 Qualification, Lantra Brushwood Chipper, NPTC A06, CS31 Felling of small trees Level 3 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm.

Essential Criteria:

  • There is a requirement to hold a Full clean UK driving licence with C1 + E entitlement.
  • Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at short notice.
  • You should have right to work in U.K.
