Job Description:
We are working closely with a local authority in Redbridge to assist with the appointment of a Reviews Officer, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £31.05- £41.00 per hour
Summary:
Redbridge Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Reviews Officer to undertake independent and legally compliant reviews of housing, homelessness, and allocations decisions. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring that statutory duties under housing legislation are fulfilled, delivering fair, transparent, and timely review outcomes for residents. The role involves managing complex housing review cases, including homelessness decisions, suitability of accommodation reviews, housing register appeals, and legal challenges. The successful candidate will work closely with vulnerable households, legal representatives, internal teams, and partner agencies to prevent homelessness, improve housing outcomes, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent reviews under Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Review decisions relating to homelessness applications, housing duties, suitability of accommodation, and housing register assessments.
- Ensure all case records, documentation, and correspondence are maintained accurately and securely.
- Assess support needs and make referrals to specialist services, including social care, tenancy sustainment, welfare benefits, and resettlement support.
- Prepare responses to complaints, Ombudsman enquiries, Member enquiries, and Freedom of Information requests.
Qualifications:
- Law degree (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification.
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience in housing, homelessness, social care, welfare, or a related field.
- Level 4 qualification or equivalent professional knowledge and experience.
Essentials:
- Experience working within a housing, homelessness, local authority, or statutory service environment.
- Proven experience managing complex housing reviews, appeals, or casework.
- Specialist knowledge of Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014, Welfare Reform Act
