Summary: The Temporary Accommodation Reduction Specialist will play a leading role within Thurrock Council's Housing Solutions Transformation Programme, focusing on reducing the number of households living in Temporary Accommodation (TA). The post holder will lead strategic initiatives and operational activity designed to minimise reliance on TA by securing sustainable move-on solutions through the Private Rented Sector (PRS), social housing pathways, and innovative accommodation options. Working within the Homelessness Team, the role will provide leadership, service improvement, and partnership coordination to improve resident outcomes, reduce financial pressures associated with TA, and support the wider homelessness prevention agenda. The role requires a proactive, solutions-focused professional with strong housing knowledge, leadership capability, and experience delivering transformation within housing or homelessness services.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Temporary Accommodation Reduction Team to deliver measurable reductions in TA usage and length of stay.
- Develop and implement strategies and initiatives to reduce the number of households in temporary accommodation.
- Explore innovative housing supply initiatives including modular housing and alternative accommodation models.
- Contribute to the Housing Solutions Transformation Programme through redesign of systems, processes, and pathways.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal departments including Housing, Adults Services, Children's Services, and Public Health.
- Ensure compliance with homelessness legislation, housing policy, and statutory guidance.
Essentials:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience within Housing, Homelessness, Public Sector Management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing duties, and temporary accommodation frameworks.
- Significant experience within homelessness services, housing solutions, temporary accommodation, or housing management.
- Experience leading teams and driving operational performance improvements.
- Experience using data, KPIs, and performance information to improve service outcomes.
