Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in West Sussex to assist with the appointment of an Assistant Passenger Transport Planner, on a 4.5-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £14.30 – £18.70 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a professional, customer focused service, ensuring the provision of pragmatic and resource efficient passenger transport solutions for a range of customers.
  • Schedule passenger transport services through liaison with a range of providers, such as bus and rail companies, taxi firms and community transport providers, including the deployment of West Sussex vehicles, such as school buses, for services over the next 12 months.
  • Make appropriate arrangements for children and vulnerable adults with specific needs.
  • Resolve unexpected problems which arise, for example, a new vulnerable person needing transport at short notice. Problems may be referred to the Principal Passenger Transport Planner for advice and assistance, but would be expected to make decisions on their own within established frameworks.
  • Negotiate with firms to discuss route pricing and encourage them to offer the best price. Check invoices against agreed rates before passing on to the finance team for payment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educated to A Level standard, or an equivalent qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification, or equivalent
    demonstrable experience – Desirable
  • A good working knowledge of the different strands of passenger transport planning, plus a basic knowledge of passenger transport issues in West Sussex.
  • Previous experience of working in a role involving coordination, logistics or planning.
  • Knowledge of the health and safety legislation, which affects the service.
  • Sound and accurate IT knowledge, particularly Microsoft Office applications.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure, managing competing demands.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and share information. Able to represent the service at both internal and external meetings.
  • Pro-active, with a willingness to seek opportunities for developing passenger transport. Able to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Good influencing, negotiation and partnership working skills

  • This role requires a Basic DBS
