Overview

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Waltham Forest to assist with the appointment of a Temporary Accommodation Reduction Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client’s discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent homelessness by securing suitable housing solutions at the earliest opportunity and facilitating timely move‑ons from temporary accommodation into sustainable private sector accommodation.
  • Provide specialist housing advice and support to customers seeking private rented accommodation.
  • Match eligible customers to suitable private sector properties through available housing schemes.
  • Work proactively to reduce admissions into temporary accommodation by identifying and securing appropriate housing options.
  • Support customers currently in temporary accommodation to access sustainable private rented housing.
  • Liaise with landlords, letting agents, and internal housing teams to secure suitable accommodation.
  • Assess customers’ housing needs, eligibility, and suitability for private sector schemes.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A‑Level standard or equivalent (or relevant professional experience).
  • Experience working within housing, homelessness prevention, or temporary accommodation services.
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing options, and the private rented sector.
  • Experience working with vulnerable customers and delivering person‑centred support.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with landlords and housing providers.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing demand.
