We are working closely alongside a local authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of a Catering Assistant on a 7-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Thurrock Catering Services is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and flexible Catering Assistant to join our school meal service. This role is vital to our mission of providing high-quality, nutritious meals to children and staff. As a Cook 1, you will go beyond food preparation; you will be a positive brand ambassador with a "can-do" attitude, ensuring that every meal is served with excellent customer care.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support food preparation, cooking, and the delivery of an excellent standard of food service to pupils and staff.
- Organize and supervise all activities within the school kitchen, counter displays, and dining room areas to ensure a seamless lunchtime experience.
- Actively promote the catering service to increase meal uptake and stay informed about new products, promotions, and industry trends.
- Adhere strictly to all Food Safety due diligence requirements, including maintaining comprehensive records and following allergy legislation.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a recognized Level 2 (or higher) Food Safety & Hygiene certificate.
- Must have formal training in food hygiene and allergy legislation.
- Proven experience in a catering or hospitality environment, preferably within a high-volume setting (e.g., schools, hospitals, or large-scale commercial kitchens).
- Experience in food preparation and cooking for diverse dietary requirements.
- Right to work in the U.K.
