We are working closely with a local authority in Slough to assist with the appointment of a Ground Maintenance Operative, on a 5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. The Grounds Maintenance Operative will undertake a range of practical grounds maintenance, horticultural and environmental maintenance duties across parks, open spaces, public areas, highways verges, cemeteries and other Council-owned land. The role involves operating grounds maintenance equipment, carrying out seasonal maintenance activities and ensuring public spaces are maintained to a safe, clean and high standard. Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine grounds maintenance and horticultural work across Council-owned land and public spaces.
  • Undertake grass cutting, strimming, edging, weeding, planting, pruning and general vegetation management.
  • Maintain flower beds, shrub beds, hedges, planted areas, grassed areas and other landscaped sites.
  • Operate and safely maintain a range of grounds maintenance machinery, hand tools and equipment, such as grass mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters and blowers.
  • Assist with the maintenance of parks, recreation grounds, open spaces, cemeteries, verges and other environmental areas. Basic education, including literacy and numeracy sufficient to undertake the duties of the role.
  • A relevant vocational qualification such as NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture, Amenity Horticulture, Parks and Gardens or Grounds Maintenance would be advantageous.

Essentials

  • Previous experience of working in a grounds maintenance, landscaping, gardening, environmental services or similar manual outdoor role.
  • Practical experience of carrying out general grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Experience using basic hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment safely.
