Overview

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Nottinghamshire to assist with the appointment of an HR Business Partner, on a 4‑month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client’s discretion.

An exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner to provide expert HR advice, strategic workforce support, and organisational development across the Council.

The role involves managing complex employee relations casework, supporting organisational change, developing HR policies, and partnering with senior leaders to deliver effective people management solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert HR advice and manage complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management, and employment tribunals.
  • Support organisational change, restructures, TUPE, workforce planning, and transformation projects while ensuring compliance with employment legislation.
  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies, deliver training, and provide coaching to managers and senior leaders.
  • Build strong relationships with managers, trade unions, schools, and external stakeholders to deliver strategic HR business partnering and guidance.
  • Analyse workforce data, identify trends, support continuous improvement initiatives, and mentor HR Advisors.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
  • Relevant HR qualification or working towards MCIPD (or equivalent).
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing HR advice and managing complex employee relations casework.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR policies, and case law.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, restructures, workforce planning, and change management.
  • Experience working within a large, unionised organisation (public sector/local government desirable).
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, analytical, and Microsoft Office skills.
