Overview

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Powys to assist with the appointment of a HGV Technician, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at client\\\’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance inspections, servicing, fault diagnosis, MOT preparation, and parts replacement.
  • Support the Fleet Operations Supervisor in delivering inspections and maintenance in line with DVSA and manufacturer standards.
  • Maintain accurate digital records, inspection sheets, and service reports.
  • Use diagnostic IT equipment to identify faults and carry out road tests (if licence permits).
  • Provide out-of-hours support during winter and bank holidays as required.
  • Promote safe working practices, maintain workshop standards, and mentor apprentices.

Qualifications and Training

  • Level 3 (QCF) qualification in repair/maintenance of vehicles or heavy plant, or equivalent.
  • Current IRTEC Advanced Technician licence OR DVSA Nominated Tester.
  • Full valid Category B licence.
  • Category C licence (or ability to attain within 2 years).
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems across a wide range of vehicles and plant.
  • Understanding of health & safety in workshop environments.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and stay organised.

Essential Experience

  • Heavy vehicle or heavy plant maintenance.
  • Vehicle inspection to DVSA standards.
