We are working closely with a local authority in Monmouthshire to assist with the appointment of a Grounds Operative, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client's discretion. Monmouthshire County Council is seeking a dedicated and reliable Grounds Operative to support the delivery of high-quality grounds maintenance and environmental services across the county. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and sustainable public spaces including parks, open spaces, schools, cemeteries, sports facilities, roadside verges, and other contracted sites.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out grass-cutting activities using hand‑held and ride‑on machinery across parks, schools, open spaces, and other designated sites.
  • Support waste collection operations when operationally required and in accordance with agreed arrangements.
  • Adhere to all health and safety legislation, Council policies, and safe working practices.
  • Assist in emergency response activities such as flooding, snow clearance, storm recovery, and other civil emergencies.
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the grade of the post following suitable training.

Essential Qualifications

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to carry out the duties of the role.
  • Previous experience working within grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, environmental services, or a similar outdoor operational environment.
  • Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements within an operational setting.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
