Rate of Pay £12.71 - £16.43 per hour

We are working closely with Southern Housing to assist with the appointment of a Grounds Maintenance Operative, on a 3-month contract highly likely to be extended at the client’s discretion. Immediate consideration for applicants who can apply with their CV.

The Ground Maintenance Operative plays a key frontline role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of communal green spaces and external environments across Southern Housing estates. Working as part of the Estate Services team, the postholder will provide high-quality grounds maintenance and gardening services to ensure residents live in safe, attractive, and well-maintained communities. The role involves practical outdoor manual work including lawn maintenance, planting, pruning, landscaping, and general estate upkeep while delivering excellent customer service to residents and supporting Southern Housing's HEART values.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance and gardening tasks including weeding, hoeing, planting, pruning, trimming, watering, dead-heading and maintaining flowerbeds and communal green spaces.
  • Operate gardening tools, machinery and equipment safely and effectively, including mowers, strimmers, brush cutters, ride-on equipment and other maintenance tools in accordance with operational and manufacturer guidance.
  • Recognise and report concerns relating to vulnerable residents to managers or housing teams where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork and commitment to Southern Housing's HEART values: Honest, Efficient, Accountable, Respectful and Trusted.

Essentials:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to follow instructions, complete records and communicate effectively.
  • Experience undertaking gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping or estate maintenance duties.
  • Experience operating grounds maintenance tools, machinery or gardening equipment safely and effectively.
  • Aware of estate safety, cleanliness and environmental standards.
  • Right to work in the U.K.
  • Standard DBS check.
  • Availability to work immediately or at short notice.
