We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Pembrokeshire to assist with the appointment of a Commercial Vehicle Technician, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £20.00 – £25.40 per hour
Overview
The Commercial Vehicle Technician (HGV) will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, servicing, and repair of the council’s fleet of heavy goods and commercial vehicles. The postholder will ensure that vehicles meet safety, environmental, and legal standards, supporting the effective delivery of front-line services across the Facilities & Environment division. This role requires technical expertise in HGV repair and maintenance, compliance with DVSA standards, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a skilled workshop team.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HGVs and other commercial vehicles in line with manufacturer and DVSA requirements.
- Diagnose vehicle faults and undertake effective repairs to ensure fleet reliability and safety.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT tests and ensure compliance with all road safety and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records in accordance with council and statutory requirements.
- Ensure the safe use of tools, equipment, and workshop facilities, adhering to health and safety regulations at all times.
Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds).
- HGV licence (Category C or C+E) desirable.
- Knowledge of DVSA regulations, vehicle inspection standards, and MOT requirements.
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices within a workshop environment.
Experience
- Proven experience in servicing, maintaining, and repairing HGVs and commercial vehicles.
- Experience in diagnosing complex vehicle faults and carrying out effective repairs.
- Experience in using vehicle diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Experience working in a fleet, local authority, or commercial workshop environment (desirable).
