We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Haringey to assist with the appointment of a Centre Assistant, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion.

Role Overview

The Centre Assistant will support the day-to-day operation of an Under Fives Centre by carrying out cleaning, domestic and childcare support duties. The postholder will help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for children, staff and visitors while assisting nursery staff with the general care and supervision of young children.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine cleaning duties including vacuuming carpets, cleaning floors, work surfaces, toys, furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean toilets, washrooms, sinks and associated facilities, ensuring hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Empty waste bins and dispose of waste in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Clean spillages promptly and maintain safe, hazard‑free environments throughout the Centre.
  • Operate washing machines and dryers, laundering towels, clothing, bedding and other Centre materials as required.
  • Maintain laundry areas safely, ensuring equipment is used correctly and cleaning materials are stored securely.

Essentials

  • Experience working with young children or within a childcare, nursery or educational setting is advantageous.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices within a workplace environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills with children, parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to assist with the general care, activities and comfort of young children.
