Brabner Fox is partnering with a well-established and fast-growing Accountancy Practice looking for a tax accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will provide all-round tax compliance and advisory support in a flexible practice with a warm, supporting culture and will enjoy fantastic progression opportunities. This is a hybrid opportunity with office time based out of fantastic firm offices in SK9.
Core Responsibilities
- Preparing and Filing Tax Returns
- Completing personal tax returns (Self Assessment)
- Preparing corporation tax returns for small companies
- Handling partnership and sole trader tax filings
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements
Advising Clients on Tax Matters
- Providing guidance on allowable expenses, reliefs, and tax‑efficient decisions
- Explaining tax implications of business changes (e.g., incorporation, hiring staff)
- Offering proactive tax‑planning strategies for individuals and small businesses
Managing Client Relationships
- Acting as the main point of contact for tax queries
- Building long‑term relationships with clients
- Communicating deadlines, requirements, and changes in tax law in a clear, friendly way
Maintaining Compliance and Record‑Keeping
- Ensuring clients meet all HMRC deadlines
- Keeping accurate records and documentation
- Staying up to date with UK tax legislation and HMRC updates
Liaising with HMRC
- Responding to HMRC enquiries or letters
- Managing compliance checks or investigations
- Submitting forms, elections, and adjustments as needed
Supporting Bookkeeping and Accounts Work (common in small practices)
- Reviewing bookkeeping for tax accuracy
- Assisting with year‑end accounts preparation
- Identifying tax adjustments and reconciling figures
Identifying Tax Risks and Opportunities
- Spotting errors or inconsistencies in client records
- Recommending improvements to reduce risk or increase tax efficiency
- Advising on VAT registration, schemes, and compliance if relevant
Internal Practice Support
- Helping improve internal processes and workflows
- Contributing to client onboarding
- Supporting junior staff or trainees with tax queries
Key Skills, Experiences and Attitudes
- Experience of working in a similar role within an accountancy practice
- ATT or progressing with studies
