Role Description The Groundworker role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Portsmouth Area. The role involves carrying out general groundworks, including excavation, trenching, laying foundations, and installing drainage and utility services. Daily tasks may also include basic landscaping, site clearance, tree and shrub planting, and maintaining clean and safe work areas. The Groundworker will work as part of a site team, follow instructions from supervisors, operate hand tools and small plant where required, and adhere to all health and safety procedures. The role may involve working in varying weather conditions and requires a practical, hands‑on approach to civil engineering and highways projects.
Qualifications
- Valid CSCS / CSCS Card and understanding of site health and safety requirements.
- Experience in groundworks activities, including excavation, foundations, drainage, and site preparation.
- Skills or experience in landscaping and working with trees, shrubs, and general outdoor environments.
- Ability to use hand tools and small plant safely and effectively, with attention to quality and detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work cooperatively within a site team.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions and follow safety instructions at all times.
- Previous experience in civil engineering, highways, or construction environments is beneficial.
- Full UK driving license or reliable transport to sites in the Greater Portsmouth Area is an advantage.
