Background information

BPP is an education Group with revenues of c£321 million with over 2000 staff. It was acquired by a Group of investment funds managed by TDR Capital LLP 6 July 2021.

The role

The Group Finance team is responsible for all financial reporting globally, both external statutory and internal management reporting to the owners. There is also typically a significant amount of ad hoc project work. The department is headed by the Group Finance Director who reports to the Chief Financial Officer. This role will report to the Group Reporting Manager as well as have direct exposure to the Group Finance Director and the Group Financial Controller. There will be close working relationships with other finance team members across the Group.

Areas of Responsibility

  1. Statutory reporting (UK GAAP)
  2. Acquisition accounting
  3. Management reporting – monthly, quarterly, annual; production of variance analysis
  4. Technical accounting matters
  5. Cash flow reporting

Statutory Reporting

  1. Liaise with the Group team and subsidiaries to ensure all external reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  2. Preparation of UK subsidiary accounts (under UK GAAP).
  3. Support the Group Reporting Manager in planning and implementing the internal statutory reporting timetable to ensure that the Group’s UK external reporting timetable can be met.
  4. Support the Group Reporting Manager through the quarterly and annual audit process.
  5. Support the Group Reporting Manager to review the VAT and Tax outputs.

Management Reporting

  1. Assist in determining the most appropriate scope and format for all management reporting to the owners and lenders.
  2. Prepare and post Group Finance journals.
  3. Review and consolidate balance sheet reconciliations provided by the management accountants in preparation for monthly review by Group FC/Group FD.
  4. Ownership of acquisition costs and appropriate reporting.

Cash Flow Reporting

  1. Cash flow forecasts and reporting of actual performance.
  2. Assist in determining appropriate Group accounting policies and ensure that these are applied consistently.
  3. Keep up to date internal controls and process documentation for internal and external audit.

Other Key Areas

  1. Keep up to date with technical developments, especially in relation to UK and International GAAP.
  2. Ad-hoc projects as required.
  3. VAT returns.

Requirements

  1. Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of dealing with complex accounting issues.
  2. Consolidation skills and ability to apply accounting standards.
  3. Strong working knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
  4. Effective communication and relationship building skills across the Group.
  5. The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines, with changing priorities.
  6. Being a proactive problem solver.
