We’re looking for a hands‐on, technically strong Senior Embedded Engineer to help drive our lubricant and fluids development work with Jaguar Land Rover. This role sits at the heart of our technical partnership, working day‐to‐day with JLR engineers while staying closely connected to our Castrol Technology Centre team in Pangbourne.

We work best with people who enjoy solving real engineering problems, building strong relationships, and keeping complex projects moving with clarity and purpose.

What we do in this role

  • We lead and coordinate lubricant development projects, making sure plans are clear, actions are tracked, and progress is reported in a structured way.
  • We manage test data end‐to‐end — choosing the right platform, keeping results updated, analysing trends, and turning findings into clear summaries.
  • We represent Castrol within JLR’s engineering teams, building collaborative relationships, sharing technical insight, and keeping information flowing smoothly between both organisations.
  • We act as a bridge for knowledge transfer, bringing JLR’s needs, challenges and future opportunities back into Castrol.
  • We set up and run oil analysis frameworks for development programmes, durability testing and field samples, and maintain a reliable database of results.
  • We support our OEM Liaison Manager by engaging with key stakeholders across Castrol and JLR to identify new lubricant and fluid development opportunities aligned with the partnership’s goals.

Where we work

This role is based at the Castrol Technology Centre in Pangbourne, with regular travel (up to two days a week) to JLR sites including Whitley (Coventry), Gaydon and EMPC (Wolverhampton).

What makes this role challenging and rewarding

  • We spend two to three days a week embedded within JLR, so we need strong technical confidence in lubricants, tribology, and internal combustion engine systems to support day‐to‐day conversations and decisions.
  • We act as the link between two organisations, balancing priorities, expectations, and confidentiality.
  • We work with proprietary information from both partners, so we stay highly aware of IP boundaries and data security at all times.
  • We handle sensitive engineering data, and we treat all information as confidential under existing contracts and Statements of Work.

What we bring to the table

Essential experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong experience in the automotive or lubricants industry.
  • Deep understanding of lubricants, tribology, and powertrain systems, especially internal combustion engines.
  • A structured, organised working style with strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence working independently and managing confidential IP and data.
  • Clear communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • A track record of building relationships across global teams and multiple sites.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a wider team.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office 365.

Desirable

  • A higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Experience as a lead engineer in engine lubrication systems.

HSSE & Compliance

We follow Castrol and JLR HSSE rules for office safety, personal safety, travel, and cyber security. Full training is provided. We also complete required training in areas such as IP, Export Control, manual handling, and JLR/Castrol Ethics & Compliance.

How we work together

We value openness, collaboration, and shared problem‐solving. We build trust by communicating clearly, respecting confidentiality, and staying aligned with the partnership’s goals. We look for people who enjoy working across organisational boundaries and who thrive in technically complex environments.
