About the role

We're looking for an ITK (Internal Knowledge) Writer to join the team behind In the Know (ITK), bp's daily internal newsletter reaching approximately 50,000 employees worldwide.

This is a fast-paced role for a skilled writer who can turn complex business updates, industry developments and external news into clear, engaging and relevant content.

Sitting at the heart of bp's internal communications, you'll help keep employees informed through timely storytelling, sharp editorial judgement and compelling writing.

Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027.

  • What you’ll be doing
  • Write and contribute multiple articles each day for In the Know, covering both internal developments and external energy, business and geopolitical news.
  • Create content in ITK's "smart brevity" style, balancing speed, clarity and accuracy.
  • Identify and prioritise stories for upcoming editions, from reactive next-day news to longer-lead features.
  • Attend leadership webcasts, town halls and internal events, turning key messages into compelling articles.
  • Monitor internal and external news throughout the day to identify stories that matter most to our employees.
  • Research trends across key business areas, including exploration & production, convenience & mobility and the wider energy system.
  • Partner with stakeholders across bp to source information, validate content and support timely approvals.
  • Manage multiple deadlines simultaneously while contributing to both immediate delivery and future content planning.
  • What we’re looking for

You may have experience in journalism, corporate communications, content creation, public affairs, publishing or a related field.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex topics simple and engaging.
  • Strong research skills and a willingness to quickly get up to speed on new subjects.
  • Outstanding organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Curiosity about current affairs, business, energy and geopolitical developments.
  • Strong partner management and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence working with colleagues at all levels of an organisation.
  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.

  • Working pattern

This role offers a hybrid working model, with three days per week based in our Central London office.

As ITK is a daily publication, the role also includes: Early starts (approximately 6:00 a. m.) two to three times per week to support newsletter production and distribution.

Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard office hours in response to major news developments or company announcements.

Planned extended leave periods aligned to ITK publishing schedules, including periods during August and December.

Future Location Notice

This role will start in St James' Square, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in St James' Square, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028.

This presents an exciting opportunity for all employees and leaders to come together in one London location.

The specific date of the move will be confirmed closer to the time.
