This is a role within the Castrol organization, and the successful candidate will become part of the Castrol ring-fence. Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

Key things to consider:

  • This is a unique opportunity to help shape and embed a best-in-class technical accounting and financial reporting framework within Castrol, a global, iconic brand with a long-standing track record of success.
  • As Castrol continues its transition following the sale of a majority interest to Stonepeak, there is significant opportunity to strengthen and evolve accounting policies, reporting processes, and governance to support the standalone organisation.
  • You will play a key role in defining how technical accounting is applied across the business, supporting consistency, quality, and transparency in financial reporting.
  • You will influence how complex accounting decisions are made, how policies are developed and communicated, and how the organisation responds to new standards, strategic transactions, and regulatory requirements.

This role requires both technical depth and strong collaboration. You will work closely with finance teams, senior leadership, auditors, and project teams globally, contributing to both near-term delivery (including statutory reporting and audit) and longer-term capability building. You won't just be applying accounting standards; you'll be helping to shape how Castrol interprets, implements, and evolves them for the future.

Castrol are seeking a highly analytical and diligent Technical Accounting & Group Reporting Advisor to support the integrity, consistency, and transparency of financial reporting across the group, helping to underpin the Castrol Onward, Upward, Forward strategy. This role sits at the centre of Castrol's financial reporting framework, with responsibility for interpreting and applying IFRS and Castrol accounting policy across a global organisation.

You will play a key role in maintaining and evolving Castrol's Reporting Manual, ensuring consistent and high-quality application of accounting principles across diverse markets and business activities. This is a highly visible role that combines technical depth with global collaboration, offering the opportunity to influence accounting policy, support critical initiatives, and enhance the quality of financial reporting across a $10bn+ organisation.

What you will deliver:

  • Complete accurate and timely consolidation of financial statements for Castrol Group.
  • Deliver consistent and accurate application of IFRS and Castrol accounting policies across the group, including maintenance and continuous improvement of the Castrol Reporting Manual.
  • Provide clear, timely, and pragmatic technical accounting guidance on complex and non-routine issues, supporting high-quality decision-making across finance teams.
  • Produce well-reasoned technical accounting positions and recommendations to support due diligence and transaction-related activities.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant external reporting, including high-quality disclosures and the preparation, audit, and filing of consolidated financial statements.
  • Enable strong governance and control through interpretation and application of accounting standards across diverse business scenarios.
  • Deliver high-quality technical insights through guidance materials, accounting papers, and advisory support, tailored to senior stakeholders and finance teams.
  • Strengthen technical capability across the organisation by expanding the reach and effectiveness of training, updates, and knowledge-sharing resources.
  • Collaborate on policy development, operational improvement, and the enhancement of reporting tools and frameworks to drive consistency, efficiency, and transparency across Castrol's finance function.
  • Collaborate with various business divisions to understand and incorporate commercial assurance for external reporting.
  • Support risk management activities related to financial reporting and consolidation.

What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications):

  • Strong experience in technical accounting, including the interpretation and application of IFRS in a complex, global environment.
  • Proven ability to assess and resolve complex and non-routine accounting issues, with confidence in exercising professional judgement.
  • Experience supporting statutory and external reporting, including preparation, audit, and filing of consolidated financial statements.
  • Ability to translate technical accounting requirements into clear, practical guidance for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence finance teams across multiple geographies.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous learning and staying up to date with evolving accounting standards and regulatory developments.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA or CPA) with an academic background in accounting, finance, or a related field.

You will work with:

The Technical Accounting & Group Reporting Advisor will be a member of the Castrol ARC (Accounting, Reporting, and Control) team, collaborating to enhance and maintain a robust global accounting framework.
